What does switching ecommerce platform involve?

Switching ecommerce platform is largely about product data. Checkout, design and payments are set up in the new platform, but the assortment, with products, variants, categories, attributes, images, descriptions and prices, has to move across and work in the new structure from day one.

Ecombooster has two-way integrations with several ecommerce platforms. The same connection that keeps your store up to date day to day can therefore be used to fetch everything from the old platform and push it into the new one.

What moves across?

Product data is the core of the migration. Depending on what the old and the new platform support, customers and order history can move across too.

  • Products and variants, with names, descriptions and SEO metadata per language
  • Categories with hierarchy, brands, and attributes with values
  • Images and attached files such as data sheets and manuals
  • Prices and stock levels

How the migration works

A migration with Ecombooster happens in four steps:

  • Fetch. Product data is fetched from the current platform into Ecombooster.
  • Clean up and complete. A migration is a good moment to fix what has grown over time. Rebuild the category structure, fill in missing attributes, make product names consistent with rules and produce copy with AI content generation. The data quality score shows what is still missing.
  • Compare. Platform comparison shows field by field what will land in the new store, and a dry run shows what a sync would do without changing anything.
  • Push. The data is pushed into the new platform. It stays in Ecombooster, so after the move the assortment is managed from there, with supplier data, prices and stock as before.

Do not forget search engines

When the addresses in your store change, redirects decide whether you keep your Google rankings. Every old address, for products, categories and images, should send visitors on to the matching page in the new store with a permanent redirect (301).

Where the old platform supports it, Ecombooster can produce a complete list of the store's current addresses. It is then mapped against the addresses in the new store and added there as redirects. Plan it before launch and check afterwards that the old addresses really lead to the right place.

Which platforms can you move between?

Migration works between platforms where Ecombooster can both fetch and push product data, today Nyehandel, PrestaShop, WooCommerce and Kodmyran. Exactly which fields move depends on what the two platforms support. Current status for every platform is on the integrations page.

Who is it for?

A migration with Ecombooster suits retailers with an assortment too large to move by hand, and especially those who want to keep managing product data in one place after the switch. If the assortment is small and simple, the platforms' own import and export tools may be enough.
